It's a nice coincidence for this tribe to have been created on Earth Day, and I hope it (Earth Day and this tribe) encourages more people to incorporate things into their daily lives that will help the environment, reinforce our connection with the natural world, and generally keep our living space healthy.
That last part deserves some emphasis: The Earth is our one and only living space (so far). From the TeamHuman.org perspective, that is the primary driver for Earth Day. It's not so much about protecting the Earth based on some abstract notion what is good for the Earth itself. Rather, we do it because it is key to our long-term survival and day-to-day happiness. Our Earth Day-inspired activities must consider how they will improve the human condition and not be undertaken if they have adverse effects on us, despite any perceived benefit to the planet as an entity unto itself.
I say this with confidence that what is good for humanity's long-term survival is also good for the Earth and its diverse ecosystems. We are making progress in detecting the potential negative long-term impacts of our actions on the environment, though we have a ways to go in figuring out the best course of actions to take as corrective or preventative measures. But I think we humans have the potential to be pretty good planetary protectors.
